NOKAbout the project
Young Carers Support in Newcastle provides tailored follow-up for children and young people who care for parents or family members with illness, disability, mental health challenges or substance misuse.
Following the statutory needs assessment, each young carer receives 4–12 sessions with a trained practitioner to help them reach the goals in their personal action plan. The aim is to reduce their caring load, improve mental health and ensure they can fully participate in education, friendships and everyday activities.
Support is delivered in close collaboration with families, schools and local services, with measures such as improving school routines, strengthening the home environment, offering financial guidance and facilitating access to social and recreational activities.
